Cross Creek – Island Grove Fire Department

The department was founded in 1978, and at that time, one brush truck was put into service. By 1981, a pumper-tanker was added, and the department became a non-profit corporation in the State of Florida.

Volunteers mapped out in detail all of the Cross Creek area. In 1984, the fire station was completed, and a class-A fire engine was acquired. A second tanker was also put into service.

At the end of 1985, the department has acquired a second class-A fire engine and secured protection Class 9 insurance rating for Cross Creek and Island Grove. This allowed for a large premium reductions.

This year, there are 4 trucks and a fire boat with plans being made to enlarge the station.

All this has been done with the help of volunteer fire fighters, the Cross Creek-Island Grove Volunteer Fire Association, the Cross Creek Homemakers’ Club and the monetary support of the community. With this continued support, the department will grow steadily and continue to provide excellent service.
